Drill planned for Friday, December 15, 2017

DSD will conduct a drill on Friday, December 15, 2017 at approximately 9:00 A.M. While the drill will not involve students, staff and bus drivers will be performing maneuvers in various areas around the campus. Buses being staged in various areas near and on the campus and staff members wearing high-visibility vests and with radios will be observed during the drill. District radio traffic will be increased during the drill. Students will not be displaced from schools during this drill. Please contact your child's principals with question.

Please be advised that the Dallas Education Association (teachers' union) has rescinded the strike notice planned for November 22, 2017. The DEA has issued a new strike date for January 22, 2018.

Bus route changes to BUS #11 due to the roundabout construction on Church St.

Effective Wednesday, October 11th, there will be 2 new stops added. They are: The American Legion, 730 Memorial Highway, Dallas, PA in the small parking lot and Dallas Fire and Ambulance, 184 E. Center Hill Road, Dallas, PA at approximately the same times. These changes will be in effect for the duration of the construction on Church Street.

State Champs!

Mountaineers beat South Park 5-0 to win PIAA Class 4A Title.

Dallas High School Graduation

June 9th, 2017 - 6 P.M.

2017 LifeSmarts National Champions

The Dallas High School LifeSmarts team won the 2017 LifeSmarts National Championship. The team (left to right) consisted of the following students: Troy Reinert, Ann Metzloff, Matt Metzloff (captain), C.J. Good, and Raymond Perez. The team was coached by Kevin West. The students also accomplished the following: Matt Metzloff finished in first place in consumer rights and responsibilities, Ann Metzloff finished in first place in health and safety, Troy Reinert finished in first place in the environment, and Raymond Perez finished in second place in personal finance.

2017 Regional IU STEM Competition

On Friday, March 3, 2017 fourth and fifth grade students from both elementary schools competed at the 2017 Regional IU STEM Competition. Two teams from Dallas Elementary School and one team from Wycallis Elementary School competed at the event. This year's challenge was to build a ride for a new eco-friendly amusement park. Students were judged on design, presentation, creativity, and other factors. The two teams from Dallas Elementary School tied for second place, and the team from Wycallis Elementary took first place. The students from Wycallis will compete in the state competition in Harrisburg in May.

NEW for the 2016-2017 School Year - Texts from Dallas

We are pleased to announce that in cooperation with our automated communication vender, ONE CALL NOW, we will be able to offer the Dallas School District Community text message communication. Communication that was previously limited to voice recorded, automated messages will now be sent via text. Voice messages will still be utilized; text will be the preferred method of automated communication. The "Dallas APP" will no longer be necessary and will not be utilized.

Guest Teacher Program Opportunity at LIU 18

Luzerne Intermediate Unit #18 Guest Teacher Program

Attention Community Members!

The Luzerne Intermediate Unit #18 Guest Teacher Program is a service offered to our local school districts, Career and Technical Institutes and the Intermediate Unit programs in Luzerne and Wyoming counties. The purpose of the program is to train individuals with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in a variety of fields interested in serving as substitute teachers. The program provides substitute teacher training to people who have a bachelor’s degree but do not have a Pennsylvania teaching certificate. The blended training sessions, conducted by Luzerne Intermediate Unit professionals, will provide instruction in Planning and Preparation, Classroom Environment, Instruction, and Professionalism. This will be done in two parts. There is an online training and one ½ day training onsite from 8:00 am – 1:00 pm. Guest teachers leave the program with an emergency permit issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) and the basic knowledge to be an effective day-to-day substitute teacher in the consortium school districts and/or Luzerne Intermediate Unit classrooms.
